Where local listings actually get posted
Straight answer first: we don't run a Montclair events calendar. Keeping one accurate takes a person checking listings every week, and a stale calendar is worse than no calendar. So instead of posting dates we can't stand behind, here's the short list of sources that publish real Montclair listings, and what each one is actually good for.
Township of Montclair
OfficialThe township site is the primary source for anything run by the town itself: council meetings and agendas, public notices, recreation department programs and registration, and seasonal community events. If something needs a permit, a road closure, or a park, it usually shows up here first.
Montclair Local
Local newsAn independent nonprofit newsroom covering Montclair. Beyond news coverage it is the most reliable place to see what is happening this week across the whole town rather than at one venue, and it catches the smaller community events that never get their own listing page.
Montclair Public Library
CommunityAuthor talks, children’s and teen programming, book groups, film screenings, computer help, and meeting space used by local organizations. Most of it is free and most of it is open to anyone, whether or not you hold a card.
Montclair Film
ArtsThe nonprofit behind the annual Montclair Film Festival, which also programs year-round screenings and conversations at the Clairidge on Bloomfield Avenue, plus education programs for students and adults.
Exhibition openings, family art days, studio classes, and lectures. The museum posts its own calendar, and exhibitions run for months, so it is worth checking even in a quiet week.
The Wellmont Theater
MusicThe largest music venue in town, on Seymour Street downtown. Touring acts and comedy go on sale through the venue and the usual ticketing platforms, often months ahead.
A few things worth knowing
Montclair spreads its event listings out more than most towns its size, and that's the main reason a single calendar is hard to keep honest. The township handles recreation and civic business, the arts organizations each program their own seasons, the library runs a schedule of its own, and plenty of neighborhood happenings live only in a Facebook group or on a flyer in a shop window. Checking two or three of the sources above usually beats trusting any one aggregator, including this one.
Anything at a downtown venue is worth booking early. Bloomfield Avenue parking gets tight on weekend evenings, and the NJ Transit schedule on the Montclair-Boonton line thins out considerably off-peak, so check the last train before you plan on it.
